Quesnel players excel in spring hockey competitions

Total Ice Titans win three gold medals in wrap-up tourneys

Total Ice Titans, a spring hockey program based in Williams Lake, went three-for-three at a pair of wrap-up tournaments last weekend (April 27-29), with all of its teams winning gold against squads from the Lower Mainland and Washington State.

Players from Quesnel featured front-and-centre in many of the winning efforts.

Blake Riley was named the B.C. Spring Showdown Tournament’s MVP.

He and Riley Lettington both play on the Atom Minor division, comprised of youth born in 2008.

They emerged as winners in the competition held in North Vancouver and Burnaby.

Also victorious in that tournament was the Total Ice Titans’ Novice Minor squad (2010). Taylor Riley and Kobe Johnson both aided in the win.

Marek Lowndes and Colton Campbell, who play on the program’s Novice Major (2009) team, finished first and third in scoring in a gold-medal win at the Mainland Hockey tournament held in Vancouver.

According to Dan Lowndes, coach of the Novice Majors and father of Marek, the Total Ice Titans’ winning ways are due to the work of its founder Ty Lucas.

“In his program, he highlights more than just hockey,” he says.

“It’s about kids being kids. It’s not about specializing early.”
