The Quesnel Thunder tier 3 bantam hockey team are the provincial silver medalists following a 9-2 loss at the hands of Terrace at the bantam tier 3 championships in Smithers, B.C.
In the championship game, Thursday morning, the Quesnel Thunder could not find a way to beat the team from Terrace who took a 4-0 lead after the first period and a 9-0 lead after two periods.
Quesnel did score two goals in the third period to round out the scoring.
The Thunder earned their way to the provincial title match with a convincing 10-5 win against Revelstoke Wednesday evening.
Earning his stripes for Quesnel was netminder Brady Powell who made 45 saves to keep the Thunder in the game.
In round robin play, the Thunder finished atop their pool with a 3-1 record.
Quesnel started round-robin play with a 4-1 win over Smithers Sunday morning and followed that with an 8-3 win over Pitt Meadows Monday afternoon.
The Thunder suffered their only loss in round robin, 5-4, Tuesday afternoon against Dawson Creek. It was a heartbreaking loss as Dawson Creek scored the go-ahead goal with 1.7 seconds left on the clock.
Quesnel then went on to win their last round-robin game 10-5 against Nelson.
The win put Quesnel in first place in their pool.
Peewee
In Campbell River, B.C., the Quesnel Thunder tier 3 peewee hockey team were in tough at the provincial championships.
After four days of round-robin action, the Thunder found themselves on the short end of an 0-4 record.
The Quesnel peewee team started the tournament with a 10-6 loss on opening day against Terrace.
The peewee Thunder tightened up on defence but lost two tough games, 2-0 against Victoria and 4-3 against Kelowna.
The Quesnel peewee squad finished the tournament Wednesday with an 8-2 loss against Castlegar.
