The Zone 8 Cariboo North-East team currently sits in fifth place in the B.C. Winter Games medal standings, with two gold, four silver and two bronze medals.
The B.C. Winter Games kicked off Friday in Kamloops, and run until Sunday Feb. 25. Quesnel sent athletes to shore up Zone 8 in archery, ringette, gymnastics, alpine skiing and Special Olympics basketball.
The Zone 8 Special Olympics basketball team, including players from Quesnel, played Zone 4 (Fraser River) today, beating them 30-18.
The Cariboo North-East team moves on to play Zone 5 (Vancouver Coastal) in the semi-finals at 2:30 p.m. today in Kamloops. If they win against Zone 5, they’ll play in the gold medal game, Sunday at 10 a.m. Should Zone 5 defeat the Cariboo team, Cariboo-North East will play in the bronze medal game on Sunday at 8:30 a.m.

In gymnastics, Quesnel’s Bianca Thompson placed 31st in the Junior Olympic 8 category after the team and all-around competition on Friday. The Zone 8 team placed seventh overall.
In ringette, Quesnel players on the Zone 8 team played in Pool B. They are playing Zone 6 (Vancouver Island – Central Coast) today at 12 p.m. Results of their pool will determine what games they play going forward.
And in alpine skiing, Quesnel’s Caleb Woollends placed 26th in the Slalom 2 Run Male; his brother Noah Woollends placed 38th.
Quesnel’s female skier Freya Jarrett placed 40th in the Slalom 2 Run Female.
