The Charles Hays Secondary School (CHSS) senior boy basketball team got off to a strong start in the first game of their two-game set against the Kitsilano Blue Demons last night.
The Rainmakers scored 30 points in the first quarter and continued to push the pace enroute to a dominant 102-82 victory over the honourable mention AAAA team from Vancouver.

“It was an exciting fast paced game,” said Rainmakers coach Ryan Bishop. “They tried to run with us, but we were able to pull away in the end.”
Bishop said offensive rebounding and low turnovers were keys to the Rainmakers victory. The team’s star forwards, Liam McChesney and Kai Leighton, both scored efficiently and rebounded the ball effectively and tallied 44 and 22 points apiece.
“They’re both playing with extreme confidence,” Bishop said.
The teams will square off again tonight in the CHSS gym at 7:00 p.m.. Bishop said he wants the team to maintain the same focus they had in the first game.
Bishop also wants the team to pay closer attention to detail defensively and do a better job of contesting three point shots.
“It’s making sure we control the offensive glass and keep our hands up on shooters so they aren’t able to make some of those runs that they did during the game,” he said.
