Ramblers host Nick Wilkes meet

Some good track and field performances by Maple Ridge athletes

Maple Ridge secondary held its annual Nick Wilkes Track Meet on Tuesday, with high school track teams from across the Lower Mainland competing.

The senior girls 100m final saw Chisom Obioha of Meadowridge take second in 12:92 and Alina Olson of MRSS third in 13:13. Obioha also won the long jump, and Olson took second in that event, and also won the shot put.

In the junior boys 100m final Cade Armour of SRT took third in a time of 12:03, and his Titans teammate Mason Herbert was right behind him at 12:13.

Ilse Rafter of MRSS won the girls Grade 8-12 1500m steeplechase in a time of 5:50.

Garibaldi’s Diego Cerros finished third in the Grade 8-10 boys 1,500m steeplechase.

Emily Morley and Bronte Miner of MRSS ran first and second, respectively, in the 200m hurdles.

Jacob Wadwhani of Terry Fox won the Grade 8-9 boys devil’s mile event, which featured a character in a devil’s costume tagging out runners with a pitchfork.

Maya Llarena of MRSS took second in the Grade 8-9 girls devil’s mile, and Keili Rebe of Garibaldi was third.

Teagan Cross of Garibaldi took second in the senior boys devil’s mile.

The Ramblers track team was in Eugene earlier in the month, competing in the Oregon Relays and against powerhouse school programs.

Aiden Grout led the team with a big win in the high jump, jumping 1.95m.

Mateya Haintz placed second in the hammer throw.

Aaryanna Kurucz placed fourth in the 400m, and anchored the girls in the 4x200m relay team to a dramatic win.

Jorrin Lenton had a 51-second 400m performance and started out the team 4x400m relay team quickly. That team finished in a great early performance of 3:35 anchored by Nico Aron. Aron won his 800m heat in 1:57.
