Not content with a two-game winning streak heading into their bye, the Langley Rams went to work during their off week.
And the results were impressive.
Langley delivered a dominating performance, routing the Kamloops Broncos 43-7 at McLeod Park on Saturday night to improve the Rams to 3-3 in the B.C. Junior Football Conference.
“What we did was re-evaluate ourselves and our direction and work hard during the bye week,” said Rams coach Jeff Alamolhoda.
“Saturday was a direct result of the work and the commitment the guys have been putting in.”
Nick Downey continued his dominant season.
The receiver/returner touched the ball just six times but managed to find the end zone three times in a span of 77 seconds.
Downey’s first score came on a 50-yard pass from quarterback Brandon Leyh, and then 43 seconds later, after the Rams defence forced a two-and-out, Downey fielded a Broncos punt on his own 38-yard line and took it all the way for a 72-yard score.
Downey’s third touchdown came on the opening kickoff of the second half, scoring on a 96-yard return.
He now has 11 touchdowns on the season in six games to lead the league.
The Rams also received a touchdown pass from Leyh to Daniel English, which opened the scoring, and then had touchdown runs from Malcolm Freeman and Kyle Albertini. The pair rushed for 47 and 52 yards, respectively, on just 14 carries.
With the lopsided score, backup quarterback Jon Roney came on to engineer the final scoring drive, which was Albertini’s rushing touchdown.
English and Downey finished with 94 and 93 yards, respectively.
Leyh finished 9-for-14 for 220 yards and two touchdowns.

Langley defensive lineman Ben Olson brings down Kamloops quarterback Jesse Neufeld during the Rams 43-7 victory on Saturday at McLeod Park.
Not to be left out, the Rams defence delivered another outstanding effort.
The group limited the Broncos to just 130 yards of net offence, with 56 of those coming in Kamloops lone touchdown.
The D also recorded seven sacks, plus defensive back Jeff Paras’ league-leading fourth interception.
Jas Dhillon, Ben Olsen, Scott Puffer, Justin Feke and Sheldon VanRoon had one sack apiece, while Kurt Pedersen and Brandon Klein teamed up for the other.
The Rams are in Chilliwack on Saturday (Sept. 17) to face the 0-6 Chilliwack Huskers.
