The Ramsey family enjoyed a double victory on March 22.

While Jack, son of former NHL defenceman Mike, a forward for the Penticton Vees helped the team win the Ryan Hatfield Memorial trophy going to the BCHL’s Interior Division champs with a 2-0 win in Game 7 over the Vernon Vipers at the South Okanagan Events Centre, sister Rachel and the Minnesota Golden Gophers won their third National Collegiate Athletic Association championship in four years. The Golden Gophers defeated Harvard Crimson 4-1 in Minneapolis.

“It’s a big day for them, getting to watch both teams win,” said Jack, who will suit up for the Golden Gophers men’s team next fall.

“It’s hard to describe right now. We’re so incredibly excited and happy what’s in front of us,” said Ramsey of the Vees win, adding they fed off the crowd of 3,200.

Following her third national championship victory, Rachel was asked if they were part of a dynasty.

“I don’t know if the players or the coaches want to say this is a dynasty,” said Ramsey to USCHO.com. “I will say that I think what we’ve done is incredibly special. Don’t know if it’ll happen again. And we’ll leave it up to you guys [in the media] to decide if it’s a dynasty or not.”

Rachel was named a top-10 finalist for the Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, presented annually to the top player in Division 1 women’s hockey, as well as a Western Collegiate Hockey Association defensive player of the year, All-WCHA First Team honoree and WCHA All-Academic Team honoree. She was second among all NCAA defenceman in scoring with nine goals and 33 points in 41 games.

Ramsey and the Vees now move onto the third round where they will play a round robin format against the Chilliwack Chiefs and Nanaimo Clippers. They host Nanaimo Wednesday at the SOEC at 7 p.m.
