A pair of Vernon athletes dominated an outdoor distance swim last Saturday in Peachland.

Nathan Champness won the men’s and Tara Ivanitz won the woman’s 7.1-kilometre Rattlesnake Island swim.

Champness finished in two hours, three minutes and 25 seconds for his eighth victory of the season.

Ivanitz swam a 1:57.03 for her first win of the summer. She was the only swimmer to crack the two-hour mark.

Other Vernon swimmers competed with strong results.

Alesha Miller finished second in the female 20-29 group in 2:05.29. Christa Miller’s time of 2:28.27 was good enough for fourth.

Bruce Melton was the only male in the 65-69 group and he completed the swim in 2:10.37.

Margaret Valair placed eighth in the female 50-59 age group with 3:17.54. Dawn King recorded 3:37.36 to earn ninth.

Falkland’s Brian Bell completed the race in 3:29.42. He was the only swimmer in the male 70-74 group.
