The Campbell River Windsor Plywood Midget B Ravens played some of the top lacrosse teams in the province during a tournament in Richmond on the long weekend.
The Ravens finished the A/B tournament with one win and four losses. They opened the tournament on Saturday with an 11-3 loss to Richmond then had a case of déjà vu as they lost to Kamloops by the same score later that day.
On Sunday, Campbell River lost to Prince George 8-2, but rallied to beat North Okanagan in the evening 6-2.
In Monday’s consolation game, the Ravens lost 11-4 to finish sixth overall. Game MVP awards went to Will McLean, Reilly Doney, Nolan Morrison, Liam Rivett and Zach Lontayao.
Unfortunately, the Ravens lost Nolan Fair in their first game due to an injured wrist (hairline fracture) as he was brought down from behind while on a breakaway.
“We had some flashes of brilliance and significantly improved in our transition play,” said head coach Todd Fair. “It was very encouraging to see everyone making positive contributions.”
Tournament scoring was led by Morrison (six goals, one assist), Doney (three goals, four assists), Cole Gent (four points), Rivett (three goals), Lontayao (three points) and Lukas Lund (two points).
Quinn Pedersen scored just once, but it was one of the best goals of the tournament. Late in the game against North Okanagan, Doney crisply passed to Leard and he made a perfect pass to Pedersen at the wide-open side of the net. Pedersen caught and shot before the goalie could even turn to see where the threat was coming from to clinch the lone Ravens’ victory.
