We lost to the host Humboldt Broncos 3-2 in overtime. Humboldt got things started right off that bat scoring seven seconds into the game. We were a little tentative the first five or seven minutes as the Broncos came hard. Wade Murphy scored late in the first on a slap shot from the point to tie it up.
The second period we played some good hockey, but took a couple of penalties. After two periods, Humboldt led 2-1. Going into the third in the locker room everyone was ready to go and excited for the challenge ahead. Wade Murphy tied the game up later on in the third on a great back door pass from Mario Lucia who got a pass from Travis St. Denis.
To end the third period, Kyle Beaulieu hit No. 26 (Andrew Johnston) and he went flying into the boards. He laid on the ice for a good three minutes and had to get help off the ice, then played the majority of the five-minute power play that Humboldt was given. I am not going to say too much about that situation, but what I will say is that it was phony. Travis St. Denis returned to the lineup and competed hard as he always does. Steven Fogarty and Michael Garteig also had a strong game. We are regrouping today and will be ready tomorrow. We aren’t panicking because we played a hard game.
