Decked out in costumes and grow sticks, the community is getting energized for the second annual Terrace glow run gearing up for next week.
Runners and families will adorn themselves in glow sticks and circle the Skeena Middle School track in a 1K loop or run a larger 5K route around the neighbourhood.
Set for Oct. 22, the event is all about the fun, with prizes for best costumes and packages of glow sticks included in the registration fee.
Last year, groups of friends boasted bright, elaborate outfits and children clamoured through the crowd, enthusiastically waving glow gear and arrayed in their own cute costumes. Families with strollers were scattered throughout the crowd and people of all different ages lined up to race.
“I think its going to be a blast,” said organizer Kristine Ewald. “We had a lot of good feedback last year… people liked how fun and excited everyone was… and it’s easy going, so people can just walk.”
The glow aspect also sparks excitement for families and friends, which numbered between 250 and 300 people last year.
Ewald says that over 100 people and 20 families have already signed up for the race this year, the second one of its kind organized by Transcend Fitness. The route and everything will be the same, and a few minor things that were missed last year will be in place, said Ewald.
Last year they donated $500 to the Canadian Cancer Society, and this year part of the proceeds will go to Skeena Wild Conservation Trust, whose goal is a sustainable system to govern Skeena River watershed.
Last minute registration and distributing glow packages to racers will start at 6 p.m., with the 1K race kicking off at 7 p.m. and the 5K shortly after.
People are encouraged to catch a lower price by registering on the Facebook event page “Glow in the Dark Run.”
