The Castlegar Rebels, controlling the puck most of the game, came out on top with a 5-3 win over the

Princeton Posse Saturday night at the Castlegar Community Complex.

In the first period the Rebels built a two goal lead on goals by Diego Bartlett (Bowerman, Reed) and Chase Reddin (Lindsey, Jenerou).

Scoring began slowly in the second, but by the ten minute mark the Rebels scored again thanks to an effort by Hunter Jenerou (McNeil, Medeiros).

The Princeton team then tried to catch up with a goal by Eric Kubis (Moltzahn, Ramsay) before Castlegar again seized the initiative with five minutes left in the second period on a marker by Kody Disher, (Bryant, Reddin).

As the Posse started to break up the coach pulled the goalie to try and get back on even terms. The tactic was effective as the Posse scored a quick pair (Moltzahn and Eric Dubetz) before the second intermission.

The Rebels (holding down third place in the Kootenay Conference’s Neil Murdoch division with 25 points) extended their lead early in the third on a goal by Mike Bhatoa (Jenerou, McNeil) and never allowed the Posse (last place in the Okanagan/Shuswap Conference’s Okanagan Division) to regroup.

In other recent action, the Rebels had been shutout 5-0 in Spokane the night before, and a day later, downed 5-2 by the Coyotes in Osoyoos.

In their next action they’ll host Summerland this Friday night at the Complex. Game time is 7:30.
