REC REPORT: Be a man or woman in motion for Hansen anniversary

The Rick Hansen Man in Motion tour will be stopping by Grand Forks on April 26.

Twenty-five years ago Rick Hansen had a dream – to make the world more accessible and inclusive and to find a cure for spinal cord injury (SCI).

Rick’s dream took shape in the form of the Man in Motion World tour. For 26 months he and his team wheeled over 40,000 kilometres, through 34 countries, raising awareness of the potential for people with disabilities.

Through the foundation that bears his name, more than $250 million has been raised to accelerate progress towards a cure for SCI and a more accessible and inclusive world.

This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Man in Motion World tour. To commemorate this, there are international and national events and activities taking place.

The Rick Hansen 25th Anniversary Relay is re-tracing the Canadian segment of the original Man in Motion tour. The anniversary tour started in Newfoundland and has now reached British Columbia. The nine-month relay covers 12,000 km and visits over 600 communities from coast to coast.

On Thursday, April 26, the Man in Motion Anniversary Relay Team will be arriving in Christina Lake and Grand Forks. We encourage residents of both communities to come out and cheer on your local medal bearer participants, who will be carrying the 25th Anniversary Man in Motion Medal through your town.

Please go online to rickhansenrelay.com and view the routes the bearers will be taking and to learn more about the Man in Motion 25th Anniversary Tour.
