REC REPORT: Grand Forks Recreation thanks mothers

Grand Forks Recreation invites families to bring their mothers to the Aquatic Centre.

Mothers are the sweetest gift to us all. There is no way we can ever really thank our mom for all she does for us, nevertheless we must make it a habit to keep reminding ourselves of the various sacrifices she made while raising us. Mothers’ Day is the best time to say in words how much you love and care for your mom.

With that said, let mom have a day off. Let her sleep in, make her breakfast and bring her to the aquatic centre.

She can enjoy a leisure swim, soak in the hot tub or sauna or workout in the fitness room. Sunday, May 13, mothers swim for free during our public swim from 1 to 5 p.m.

There are so many benefits to being active and eating healthy that it is best to pay attention to it.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) offers many opportunities to get active.

Aquafit moderate classes are offered Monday through Friday from 10:15 to 11 a.m. Aqua-Advance classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m.

If you’ve never attended a fitness class or if it has been a long time since you have done fitness on a regular basis, or you suffer with minor disabilities, start with our aqua-Mild class.

Classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 11 to 11:45 a.m.

Alternative to Aquafit classes, we offer circuit weight training classes. Circuit classes combine weights and cardio in a timed interval format, offering a full body workout.

Earlybird classes are held Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 6 to 7 a.m. Moderate circuit classes are held Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 9 to 10 a.m. Space is limited in our fitness room so arrive early.

Join the walking group that meets every Monday, Wednesday and Friday morning at 8:30 a.m. in front of the aquatic centre. This is a self-led program, there is no registration fee attached and the only commitment is for you to get out and get active.

Instructor Gisela Ko offers stretching for mobility classes every Tuesday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m. and Friday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.  Christina Lake classes are held at the Christina Lake Community Hall on Wednesday afternoons from 1 to 2 p.m.

Many of the stretches have been adapted so they can be done while sitting or using a chair for support.
