Swimming lessons are a life-long skill that has proven to be valuable.
An average of 400 Canadians drown each year in Canada and the ability to swim is important but swimming skills alone aren’t always enough. Learning water safety is the key to preventing an emergency in or on the water, and also teaches what to do if you find yourself in an emergency situation.
June 2 to 10 is Water Safety week in Canada, an annual campaign to educate Canadians on how to stay safe around water and prevent drowning incidents.
During this week, we will be offering the swim to survive challenge during our public swim hours. Check out the Canadian Red Cross webpage for more details on safety tips.
To kick off water safety week, we will be offering a Boat Pro Course on Saturday, June 2 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the arena viewing room.
Pre-registration is required. Instructor Mike Fairweather with Power Sail and Squadron provides current and up-to-date information about safe boating.
