REC REPORT: Training for the Christina Lake Triathlon now

Grand Forks Recreation is offering Triathlon in a Month for February, which is great prep for June's triathlon at Christina Lake.

Girls and Women on the Move is a program that has been created to help inactive girls and women get active again.

Winter in Grand Forks does not have to be long, dark and boring as there are so many different activities that can be enjoyed here in our area.

Experience cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in our back yard and try your luck at curling and skating.

These are some of the winter activities the group will get to experience and try during the month of February. The events are free but you must call to register.

Diving under the water can be a breathtaking experience while vacationing somewhere warm and in the tropical waters.

Sheldon Boyd with Serpent Aquatic will be offering an introductory two-hour session for beginner divers on Sunday, Feb. 12.  He provides you with the proper equipment and instruction to make this a very positive and fun experience. You will be inspired to try it again. The deadline to register is Sunday, Feb. 5.

Many of us have probably thought about doing a triathlon but feel the time commitment for training is just too much.

Grand Forks Recreation (GFREC) is offering a Triathlon in a Month for the month of February.

Participants will choose their distance category that works best for their fitness level. When you have completed the distance, your name will be entered into a draw. This is a great prep for the 2012 Pharmasave Christina Lake Triathlon scheduled for Sunday, June 24.

If you happened to miss the Saturday morning preschool swim lessons and want to get the little ones in for lessons, our morning and evening program will start Monday, Feb 6. Classes will run twice weekly for three weeks for both morning and evening programs.
