The Vancouver Giants are back in the thick of things, thanks to a four-game winning streak.
All four of the Giants victories have come on the road.
The G-Men are now 5-7-0-0 on the season, and went 4-2-0-0 on their season-long six game road trip.
On Saturday at the Canalta Centre in Medicine Hat, Radovan Bondra scored the game winning goal 1:49 into overtime as the G-Men edged the host Tigers.
Ryan Kubic was phenomenal in the Vancouver goal, stopping 36 of 37 shots, while Ty Ronning had the Giants’ other goal.
David Quenneville opened the scoring for the Tigers on a five-on-three power play in the first period, beating Kubic with a one-timer from the top of the left circle.
Ronning equalized for Vancouver less than five minutes into the middle frame, tallying an unassisted marker after a great individual effort, as he danced around a defender in the slot before scoring on Medicine Hat goaltender Nick Schneider.
Kubic came up big with a number of critical stops in the third period, including a pair of point blank saves on Steven Owre during a Medicine Hat two-man advantage.
Bondra bagged the winner on a two-on-one in overtime, after Brendan Semchuk got him the puck, and he blew a wrist shot past Schneider from the left circle.
The Tigers outshot the Giants 37-21. Vancouver was 0-for-5 on the power play.
The Giants host the Saskatoon Blades this Wednesday, Oct. 19 at the Langley Events Centre. Game time is 7 p.m.
