The Kispiox Valley Rodeo has the largest purse in the British Columbia Rodeo Association and by far, the most roughstock entries, just over 50. There were contestants from the U.S.A., Alberta, B.C. and the Yukon competing. Celebrity cowboy, Dustin Flundra, former winner of the Calgary Stampede’s $100,000 Saddle Bronc champion, Canadian champion and NFR finalist was the winner of the Saddle Bronc on the weekend. Mike Beers, National Finals qualifier more than 20 times in the team roping and many times world champion won the calf roping. Logan Hodson of Telkwa, who recently conducted a Saddle Bronc and Bareback school in the Kispiox Valley, a Canadian Rodeo Finals qualifier many times and a Canadian Rodeo Celebrity won the Bare Back and was second in the Saddle Bronc.
The ‘Voice of Rodeo’ three time World Champion Auctioneer, Keith Dinwoodie announced the weekend rodeo. The stock was supplied by B.C.’s top professionals, C+ Rodeo Company from Williams Lake.
Due to Logan Hodson and the Smithers and Kispiox Valley Rodeo Clubs sponsoring the rodeo school, there was a large increase of entries from local riders. Keifer Larson of the Kispiox Valley won the most promising student. Other students who did well were Markus Coles-Garcia, Spencer Lewis, Andrew Nelson, Cameron Nickel, Nicolas Flinton, Joseph Giles and Glen Paulin. Some students came from as far away as Chilliwack, Sparwood, Alberta, Williams Lake and Saskatchewan.
