The Revelstoke Avalanche grounded the host Pleasant Valley Sinners 41-38 in Saturday’s final of the Winter Snoball Senior Girls Basketball Tournament in Armstrong.
Allysha West led the Sinners with seven points and took game MVP.
“The girls just came up short against the five-person Avalanche squad,” said Sinners’ coach George Koscis. “We outshot them, but couldn’t find the bottom of the net.”
To reach the final, PVSS iced the Heritage Christian Saints of Kelowna 55-33 before ambushing the Seaton Sonics 46-14.
Player of the game Alyssa Johnson finished with 20 points versus Kelowna, while Ashley Ringdal drained 10, Ella Brown had nine and Aurora Cox chipped in with eight.
Game MVP Brown rung up 13 points as the Sinners slammed the Sonics.
Next action for the Sinners is Friday when they open the four-team Osoyoos Rattlers tournament.
In North Zone senior AA girls league play, the VSS Panthers upended the visiting Kalamalka Lakers 73-55.
Sage Blundell flushed 23 points, including five shots from Lakeview Park, to spark the Panthers. Quinsy Leier pocketed 16 points and seven rebounds, while Karley Fugel earned 11 points and six boards and Mary Rice counted nine points.
“It was a good team win against a very good team that is well-coached,” said VSS co-coach Bobby Mitchell.
“Our depth was a big difference in this game as we were able to wear them down as the game went on.”
The Panthers brushed back Revelstoke 57-42 in other league action, getting a dozen points from Rice and eight apiece from Jenna Marion, Blundell, Fugel and Leier.
The Cats face the Yale Lions of Abbotsford Friday in the KSS Owls tournament.
In senior boys action, Luke Harrigan dialed up 13 points as Seaton bested the PVSS Saints 49-32 Saturday in Armstrong.
Kuup Peters, with 11, and Alex Baxter, with 10, rounded out the 2-3 Sonics’ scoring. Devan Pipke and Kyle Boyd paced the Saints with 11 and eight points respectively.
AJ Jhajj drained 17 points and grabbed a dozen rebounds as the Kal Lakers outlasted VSS 69-63 Saturday night at the Panther Pit.
Chris Gallant sank 12 points for the Lakers, while Mitchell Pepper pumped in 17 and Travis Barker bagged 15 for the Panthers. Shelby Hartwig collected 14 points and 11 boards for VSS.
The highly entertaining tilt was tied 30-30 at the half and VSS held the lead 46-43 after three quarters before the Lakers capitalized on turnovers.
The Panthers open their six-team Subway Shootout tourney Friday morning (11:45) against the KSS Owls. The Cats battle the Summerland Rockets Friday at 6:45.
The Rutland Voodoos, Okanagan Mission Huskies of Kelowna and Princess Margaret Mustangs of Penticton are the other entrants. The final goes Saturday at 1 p.m.
Kal is hosting their eight-team Rock the Rim senior boys tournament starting Friday with the Lakers going up against the Salmon Arm Golds at 2 p.m.
The Howe Sound Sounders of Squamish, Valleyview Vikings of Kamloops, Correlieu Clansmen of Quesnel, David Thompson Lakers of Invermere, D.W. Poppy Red Hawks of Langley and Langley Christian Lightning round out the tourney roster.
In other senior boys league play, the Fulton Maroons toppled Kal 59-29.
Austin Richardson canned 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Tye Kitzman supplied 14 points for the Maroons.
The Charles Bloom Timberwolves open their senior boys invitational Friday at 2 p.m. against the Chase Trojans.
Seaton takes on the Barriere Cougars in their Friday 7:15 p.m. opener, while the George Elliot Coyotes of Lake Country tangle with the Clearwater Raiders at 3:45 and the Merritt Panthers play the Ashcroft Golden Rams at 5:30.
The championship game goes Saturday at 8:15 p.m.
Kettle Valley Railway of Penticton won both the boys and girls titles in the Fulton Grade 8 tournament. Fulton placed second on the boys side.
