Special to the Review
The Mount Macpherson trail network was host to Revelstoke’s first Enduro fiver ($5) mountain bike race series of the 2019 season.
Established and presented by the Revelstoke Cycling Association, this community event saw 84 registered riders put on a sweat, kick up some dirt, and have a laugh.
RCA members pay $5 per race, and with the hard work and dedication of event directors Sam Beaudoin and Megan Rose, competitors received a professional quality race with a laid-back and friendly vibe.
Mt. Macpherson, which boasts 55 km of winding single track in a vast inter-connected network of trails was in great shape.
The course took riders down the venerable TNT, up and over to the flowy Berm Donor, and a final pedaling finish on Leap Frog.

Riders in both male/female and youth/open categories raced against the clock as they railed through berms, flew over roots, and dropped into low gear for some steep and technical climbs.
Enduro is a combination of downhill and cross-country bike racing where riders are only timed for the downhill sections of the race, and are then required to bike to the proceeding sections.
The additional difficulty compared to a downhill race is the cumulative fatigue gained as you climb the trail to the next timed section. However, unlike a cross-country race you’re not timed for the overall duration.
With lots of smiling face, dirty bikes, and plenty of raffle and competitor prizes to go around, the association’s first enduro fiver series of the season went off without a flat.
