The Revekstoke Secondary School (RSS) Track and Field Team competed at the North Okanagan Athletics Association (NOAA) Zone Championships on Thursday, May 9, at Hillside Stadium in Kamloops.
The team’s performance can be described as dominant, placing first in the grade 8 girls, junior girls, senior girls, junior boys and senior boys overall points tally, while the grade 8 boys placed second.
The combined North Zone/West Zone qualifier meet advances the top two grade 8 athletes, as well as the top three junior and senior athletes in each event to the Okanagan Valley Secondary Athletics Association (OVSAA) Championships.
RSS fielded many athletes winning or qualifying in their respective events. Noteworthy performances came from:
— Elizabeth Elliott (gr. 8 girls): first in 200m and 400m, second in 100m;
— Austin Carter (jr. boys): first in 100m, second in 200m;
— Adam Smith (jr. boys): first in 400m and 800m;
— Rylan Bokis (gr. 8 boys): first in 200m;
— Gina Cinelli (sr. girls): first in 800m;
— Alana Brittin (gr. 8 girls): first in 1500m and javelin;
— Jacqueline Cottingham (sr. girls): first in 400m and 400m hurdles;
— Meghan Cottingham (jr. Girls): first in 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles;
— Daniel Blackie (jr. boys): first in 110m hurdles, 300m hurdles, and 1500m steeplechase;
— Stef Wallach (sr. girls): first in javelin;
— Robyn Rourke (jr. girls): first in javelin;
— Cam McKenzie (gr. 8 boys): first in discuss throw;
— Takara Tompkins (jr. girls): first in discuss;
— Juliana Carter (gr. 8 girls): first in discuss;
— and many others.
Revelstoke Secondary School will send approximately 30 athletes to Kelowna’s Apple Bowl Stadium on Tuesday, May 13, for the OVSAA Championships. From there, top three finishers in junior and senior age categories will advance to the provincial championships taking place in Langley from May 29–31.
