B.C.’s mountain biking leaders will be coming to Revelstoke for their bi-annual conference in September.
The Mountain Bike Tourism Symposium is being held in Revelstoke from Sept. 13-15 and will be followed by Bike Fest Revelstoke on Sept. 16–17.
“Revelstoke is a great central location in B.C., less than six hours away from just about anywhere in the province,” said Meghan Tabor, the marketing manager for Tourism Revelstoke in a news release. “We are seeing huge growth in our mountain biking sector, and we are beyond thrilled to host the symposium here this year.”
The theme for the symposium will be stewardship — a fitting one given the lessons learned by the damage done to Revelstoke’s signature Frisby Ridge trail in September 2015. Attendees will look at ways to support trail maintenance to ensure long-term sustainability of trail networks.
Delegates to the conference include mountain bikers, tourism officials, land-use planners, trail builders, government policy makers, First Nations, non-profits and educators. They’ll be treated to a mix of speakers and group rides on local trails.
“We are incredibly fortunate to live in a province that is so well suited for mountain biking. We truly are the envy of the mountain biking world,” said Martin Littlejohn, the executive director of the Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association. “Revelstoke is a great destination with so much to offer. We are very excited to have it be the location for the symposium in 2017.”
The symposium is being organized by Tourism Revelstoke, the Revelstoke Cycling Association and Wandering Wheels.
