The 2011 BC Seniors Games, hosted by Nelson, Castlegar, and Trail from Aug. 16-20 will see a large contingent of participants from Revelstoke in the hunt for medals.
This is the 24th year for the games, with the 25th anniversary being hosted by Burnaby next year.
B.C. is divided into 12 zones and Revelstoke is in Zone 8, South Central, which includes the West Columbia, Shuswap, Thompson and part of the
Caribou.
Revelstoke’s representative at the Zone 8 monthly meetings is Judy Zmaeff, who is also currently serving her fourth year as First Vice Chair on the Zone 8 board.
Now the Participants:
DARTS: Linda Bruder, Ruth Boettger, and Diane Tessaro.
SWIMMING: Lawrence Davis.
BOCCE: Tony Scarcella and Angelo Pasceri.
BRIDGE: Dale Morehouse and Walter Schleiss.
DRAGON BOATS: Ginger Shoji, Vivian Mitchell, Barb Little, Diane Andrews, and Jennifer Wolney.
SLO PITCH: John Scarcelli.
FIVE PIN BOWLING: Revelstoke had a team in the playoffs this spring but was not successful in gaining a berth to the games. Alice Lines, Lorna Johanson, Dale Schumacher, Rose Fowlie, and Una McInnes – better luck next year.
Supporting members; Isabel Pallister, Sherrin Davis, Marlene Scarcelli, Rose Lund, Bill and Judy Zmaeff.
The sports and events at the BC Seniors Games are competitive, with the winners taking their rewards in the form of gold, silver, and bronze medals. The greatest rewards, however, are visiting with friends and fellow competitors from around the province.
The banquet and dance features a sixties rock band, Grease Lightning, with Elvis making an appearance.
Ladies will be in hoop skirts and bobby socks with the boys trademark cigarette pack rolled in the sleeve of their Tshirts.
Memories. Memories, yes, but the reality of the present includes canes and, in some cases, wheel chairs but you know what, we want to take in every moment of the BC Seniors Games experience and have all the fun and laughs we can possibly have.
Good luck to the Revelstoke Participants. You will be among almost 4,000 Participants from across the Province. Have “fun, fun, fun til her daddy takes her T-bird away.”
Don’t forget to tell us your stories when you get back home.
