The Rex Red Army took a couple of direct hits in Trail Commercial Hockey League action on the weekend.
After OK Tire defused the normally potent Rex offence on Saturday, 9-3, the Arlington completed the destruction by bombing the Army on Sunday 10-4.
The Rex have scored the second most goals in the league this season with 128 goals for, but have given up a disparate 139 against.
Big A exploded for five goals in the first period Sunday and never looked back as they continued their hot play of late.
Although, the team lost a close 7-5 decision to league-leading Re/Max on Thursday, they have steadily improved, racking up four wins over the past month.
Jake Vlanich had a big six-point night for the Arlington, netting a hat trick and three assists while Matt Proulx pumped in two and added a helper.
Mike Makway also scored twice and had an assist and Nathan Ehman pitched in with three assists in the 10-4 drubbing.
OK Tire sits only one point back of the Rex for second place.
In the afternoon tilt Sunday, the Re/Max extended their lead over second-place Rex by blanking the Firebird, 8-0.
Chris McIssac earned the shutout for the realtors and league-leading scorer Graham Proulx contributed a four-point night with two goals and two assists.
Re/Max took a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Kieron Hill and Dave Rugg, before the flood-gates opened in the second period.
Along with Proulx’s pair, Devyn Hill would add two with singles from Jason Vecchio and Dave Eccles who finished with a pair of assists as well.
In other action last week Firebird got by OK Tire 6-4.The next league games go Feb. 9.
