Riders cash in at Okanagan rodeo

Over $12,000 given out to competitors at the 81st annual Keremeos Elks Rodeo

Cowboys and cowgirls cashed in big time at the 81st annual Keremeos Elks Rodeo, to the tune of over $12,000.

Organizers released the results from the three-day event and prize money given out for the B.C. Rodeo Association-sanctioned event.

Among the big winners was Hazelton’s Christoph Muigg, who collected first and second prize money of just over $900 in the bareback riding event.

Keifer Larson, also of Hazelton, was third.

No prize money was given out in the bull riding event with none of the riders able to hang on for the required eight seconds.

Tyler Roberts picked up over $500 in the saddle bronc event as did Jack Herman of Chase and Willie Twan in the tie-down roping and steer wrestling competitions.

Jette Park was the fastest in the breakaway roping event in just 3.1 seconds and won $500.

In the ladies barrels race, Gina Volansky of Nakusp was fastest in a time of 17.426 seconds and good for over $900 in prize money.

Team roping winners were Mike Beers and Chad Evenson finishing in six seconds and winning almost $700 each.

Clay Gordon and Brandon Louie topped the standings of the junior steer riding while Tatum Long was the junior barrel winner.

In the local barrel racing competition, it was Breanne Watson of Keremeos finishing first ahead of Madison Schneider, Jordyn Hayes, Taylor Thompson, Ciara Poirier and Morgan Brooks.
