The Red Bull Buttercup is back at Mount Washington and will see riders slip and slide their way on some custom-built features Saturday March 24.
Inspired by skateboarding, buttering is all about the silky smooth slides over boxes and rails and doing it in style.
The contest series showcases creativity in technical flatland trickery. Born in the northeast in 2009 and bred for the country in 2011, it’s all about going back to the basics of having fun shredding.
The jam session format keeps the action flowing while riders battle in Pro and Am divisions for cash and fresh gear.
So what exactly makes one buttery? It’s all about how much style each rider can spread on the custom-built features also known as butterpads. Riders jib, bonk, tap and slide their way across a multi-featured pad, showcasing their skills and not skimping on the flair.
Style and creativity is the name of the game regardless of your riding skill level. Buttercup is an amazing event to witness and the competition is hot so the cream will rise to the top. There are cash prizes for best trick, rider’s choice, top male and female. You must be 16 years of age or older to register.
If standing on the slopes watching isn’t your thing, there is an after-party. DJ Shrew and Mr Smith will provide sweet beats to jam to during the day and Vinyl Richie will join them in the pub for a late night showdown.
Registration goes from 9 to 10 a.m. The qualifying jam starts at 11 a.m. with the finals from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday March 24.
