The Ridge Meadows Flames lost games on Thursday and Friday, but the junior B team got back in the win column on Sunday with a victory over a hot Grandview Steelers team.
Marco Ballarin and Nicholas Maydaniuk each scored twice as the Flames defeated the Steelers 5-2 at Burnaby Winter Club.
Maydaniuk had the game’s first goal, then scored the game winner shorthanded early in the second period.
Grant Rostvig also scored.
Tyler Read was back in net and made 25 saves on 27 shots for the win.
Read is 4-4-1 on the season, and is among the busiest goalies in the league, ranking second in both shots on net and saves.
Ballarin’s points on the weekend give him seven goals and seven assists, for 14 points in 12 games. That is ninth in scoring in the Pacific International Junior Hockey League.
On Friday night, the Flames lost 5-1 to the Abbotsford Pilots in front of the home crowd at Planet Ice. Team captain Travis Oddy had the only goal.
Goaltender Kurt Klimek faced 55 shots.
The Flames managed 26.
The Pilots lead the Harold Brittain Conference with a record of eight wins, three losses and a tie.
On Thursday, the Flames lost 3-2 to the Mission City Outlaws in a road game.
Jordan Rendle and Ballarin scored. Klimek was in net for the loss, and stopped 31 shots.
