Riptide U17/18 girls soccer team shines at Starfire Showcase tournament

The U17/18 Riptide girls soccer team travelled to Seattle, Wash. this past weekend for some Canada vs. U.S. action at the Starfire Showcase tournament.

They won each of their three games with a shutout and became a “team to watch.” Only when facing another Canadian team did they concede a goal in a tie game, but they still finished with the highest total points in the U18/19G division.

The rainy weather seemed to fuel the girls as that seems to be the weather they enjoy playing in and play best in.

The fans also came out in the rain, and supported the girls with a gusto not heard elsewhere, a team spokesperson said.

The girls moved the ball very well around the opposition, with great runs and multiple shots at goal. They showed strength and endurance throughout the games and brilliant passing and teamwork.

As one of the players said: “We played harder knowing that there were scouts there, and knowing that we can play hard in four games over three days, we can play that way in a single game every weekend.”

The team now sits in second place in the Island league and hopes that this inspiration will lead them to a berth in the upcoming 2016 Provincial championships.
