River Kings advance to CIHL finals

Terrace beat Quesnel 6-2 in the second playoff game, and will play Williams Lake for the title

The Terrace River Kings defeated Quesnel Kangaroos 6-2 on Saturday night and are advancing now into the CIHL finals against Williams Lake.

The River Kings beat the Kangaroos 4-2 in their first game of the playoff round in Quesnel, and, with Saturday’s win on home ice, earned the advance to finals.

The Terrace boys took a three-point lead in the first period, with goals scored by Cory Dekelver, Colten Braid, and Corbin Legros.

Braid scored another goal in the the second, followed by one from the Kangaroos, putting the score at 4-1 going into the third.

The Kangaroos scored one more late in the final three minutes, but Dekelver also landed a final shot to end the game 6-2 .

Williams Lake also defeated Prince Rupert 7-3 on Saturday, their second win after an earlier 8-4 victory.

The River Kings face the Stampeders in Williams Lake this weekend, Feb. 10, and the final showdown will be here in Terrace Saturday, Feb. 17 and Sunday, Feb. 18, if needed.

Winner of the finals will advance to the senior men’s provincial Coy Cup.
