River Kings lose first Coy Cup game 5-6

The Terrace boys held a 5-5 tie early in the third, but lost with a late goal from Williams Lake

The Terrace River Kings lost their first game in the Coy Cup Senior Men’s AA Hockey Championship in Williams Lake yesterday.

Going up against the Stampeders home team, the River Kings came out strong and claimed a 3-1 lead in the first period.

A Stampeder storm in the second period flipped the score around 5-4, but Terrace managed to tie up the game halfway through the third.

A late goal from the Stampeders, however, took the lead and left the Terrace boys with a 5-6 loss.

The River Kings did outshoot Williams Lake 22-21, and Ryan Roseboom scored a hat trick during the game, with other goals scored by Brian Lomas and Ben Reinbolt.

Action continues all week in Williams Lake, with the River Kings facing Kelowna Sparta tonight, and Dawson Creek Canucks on Thursday.

The earlier Coy Cup game on Tuesday saw Dawson Creek defeat Kelowna 7-3.

Semi finals are on Friday and finals are Saturday.

Williams Lake will be back in action tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m. taking on the Canucks in its second game. Wednesday’s 5 p.m. game will see the Sparta take on the River Kings.
