Terrace River Kings shut out their Prince Rupert rivals 3-0 at the Terrace Sportsplex last Friday, Dec. 4.
Steve Cullis and Josh Murray led the points, with back to back goals 13 minutes into the first period.
The River Kings dominated the second period with Murray landing a snipe in the back in the net halfway through to make the score 3-0.
Though the Kings racked up five penalties in the third, they managed to hold off Rupert Rampage, who played strong and earned a few great shots on goalie Patrick Leal.
Coach Rob Findlay said it was a solid, back and forth game.
“Prince Rupert played good, they didn’t quit on us,” he said, adding that the River Kings again showed strong team play and great defence.
Cheers were strong and stands boasted 510 people who came out for the game.
With this win against Prince Rupert and a 5-2 win Nov. 28 against Lac La Hache, the River Kings have maintained their first place standing in the eastern division of the CIHL.
They are second overall to Williams Lake, who beat them 6-2 on Nov. 29.
Last weekend was the first of a streak of five home games this month, with the Kings playing Quesnel on Saturday and Lac La Hache Sunday at the Terrace Sportsplex.
