Football season is fast approaching, and the Mission Secondary Roadrunners senior varsity football team has been testing themselves against top talent this preseason.
Heading into the school’s second year at the AAA level, the Roadrunners took a trip to Pasadena, Calif., on Sept. 2 to take on California Polytechnical where they fell 55-0.
Mission then lost 42-14 to the preseason number-two ranked AAA team, the New Westminster Hyacks on Sept. 8.
The Roadrunners continue their preseason on Saturday, when they travel to Tsawwassen to battle the number-three ranked South Delta Sun Devil.
The senior varsity team then opens the regular season when they host Centennial on Sept. 22 at 3 p.m. The club is looking to build off a 2016 season that saw them post a record of one win and six losses.
The Roadrunners junior varsity team opened the exhibition schedule with an 8-6 loss to the Notre Dame Jugglers in Mission on Sept. 7. Keenan Baker got the Roadrunners on the board with a 60 yard fumble recovery touchdown.
The club continued the preseason on Wednesday afternoon against the G.W. Graham Grizzlies, but results were not available at press time. Mission then travels to Surrey to take on Lord Tweedsmuir on Sept. 21, and the host Vancouver College on Sept. 28 to close out the exhibition schedule.
The junior varsity team opens the regular season on Oct. 5, when they host New Westminster.
