The Golden Rockets have announced the newest addition to the hockey operations staff.
Darryl Rosser joins head coach and general manager Jeremy Blumes as the team’s associate coach for the upcoming 2018/19 Kootenay International Junior Hockey League season.
Rosser has spent the past nine seasons with the Canadian Athletic Club (CAC) out of Edmonton, Alberta.
The past three seasons the Hockey Canada High Performance 1 certified coach served as head coach of CAC’s Minor Midget AAA program, compiling a record of 48-41-16.
Along with Rosser’s head coaching responsibilities, he has served as an on-ice instructor at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Hockey Academy.
“I’ve been seeking an assistant coach with the qualities Darryl possesses. He is organized, bright, engaging, and has the desire to be a career coach. For me the fit was as important as the candidate’s resume. I had a really good feeling from our conversations and then followed that up by reaching out to Rosser’s references, Seattle Thunder Birds general manager Bil La Forge, as well as goalie coach Ian Gordan who works with Darryl at Mount Carmel,” said Blumes. “Bil and Ian both reiterated Rosser’s professionalism, keen eye for talent, ability, and character. Based on my level of interest and reinforced by those recommendations, I met with Darryl, along with assistant general manager Chance Szott following the Olds Grizzlies development camp last weekend. That meeting along with additional dialogue has proven to be extremely productive which leads us to this mornings encouraging announcement.”
Rosser was awarded CAC’s coach of the year honours for his efforts during the 2013/14 season and has been a part of developing many players that have gone on to play in the Western Hockey League as well as junior hockey leagues in Alberta, Saskatchewan, the Kootenays, and the Capital Junior League. During Rosser’s time with the Alberta Wolfpack spring program, Rosser’s teams have won numerous medals at tournaments including a silver medal at Whistler International.
Rosser was promoted to coach mentor the past two spring seasons, spending time evaluating and helping the organization coaches develop.
“I am very excited and grateful for the chance to work with Coach Blumes, the entire Rockets organization, and the town of Golden,” Rosser stated.
Rosser’s duties as associate coach become effective immediately.
The Rockets also added Golden native Tom McIntyre as the Edmonton area scout.
McIntyre has been coaching hockey the past 10 seasons, most recently at the midget AA level with CAC.
McIntyre is the owner and operator of a program which offers development for mid stream and elite level players aged 13 to 19. McIntyre is married with two sons and is very much looking forward to working with the Rockets and reconnecting with his home town through Hockey.
