The Golden Rockets pushed hard this weekend, taking a loss on Friday, and a win on Saturday against the Columbia Valley Rockies.
On November 9, the game was quite physical, but there was still no score at the end of the first period. Goalie Ryan Baker returned to the ice on Friday night after recovering from a concussion, and made some great saves, keeping the Rockies at bay.
The second period was tough for the Golden Rockets, but they kept pushing back again the Rockies. The Rockets were unable to score any on the Rockies, who snuck in three goals against the hometeam, ending the second period in a 3-0 score for the Rockies.
Jayden Hendricks got the first goal in on the Rockies in the third period, and the whole team put more pressure on their opponents, fighting for the win.
The second goal against the Rockies was made by Riley Egan from Bryce Trimmer. After some back and forth, the Rockies scored again, bringing it up to 4-2, with more than half of the third period gone. The Golden Rockets were unable to secure any more goals against the Rockies.
On November 10, the Golden Rockets travelled to play the Columbia Valley Rockies again on their turf. The game was off to a fiery start, and the Rockets were determined not to repeat the night before.
The Rockies scored the first goal on Saturday night, but it wasn’t long before Dominic Turner scored against them, unassisted. The Rockies were able to score another on the Rockets before the end of the period, but the Rockets continued to push back into the second period.
Tying up the game in the second period, Jacob Dewar scored on the Rockies with an assist from Hendricks. The second period ended in a 2-2 tie, and featured some high-octane hockey, and relentless saves by Baker.
By the third period, the Golden Rockets were determined to not let the Columbia Valley Rockies win both games in a weekend.
The Rockies got one more goal in, bringing the score up to 3-2 in the third period, but the Rockets fought back, tying it up again with a goal by Turner from Egan.
Heading into overtime, the Rockets were determined to win this game. Hendricks scored the winning goal of the night from Egan, defeating the Rockies 4-3.
On home ice this weekend, the Rockets host their alumni game on Sunday, Nov. 18 at 11 a.m. The next regular home game is November 16 against Castlegar at 7:30 p.m. at the arena, and November 17 against Creston.
