Fraser Rodgers is dropping the mic after calling more than 474 regular season and playoff games with the Penticton Vees.

In his six seasons (2011-17) as the voice of the Vees, the Nanaimo native always tried to make fans feel as if they were at the game, even when he was on the road. As he put is, as if “they were sitting watching the game alongside of me.”

“The biggest challenge was just letting them know who, what, where and when and why,” said Fraser. “Where is the puck, what’s going on. Why is this happening. That’s the biggest thing I took pride in.”

Rodgers called four BCHL Fred Page Cup Finals, two Western Canada Cups and three RBC Cups, including the Vees 2012 national championship in Humboldt, Sask. Among his highlights is that Royal Bank Cup victory, the Fred Page Cup championships and the small moments, including hanging out on the bus with the team. He loved the camaraderie shared on the bus and the jokes cracked.

“I don’t think anything is going to replace those Game 7 moments, especially that Game 7 in Chilliwack,” he said of this past run. “It was terrific. It was a memorable game.”

Rodgers will step away from doing work in hockey and is looking toward the commercial private sector saying he needs a fresh start.

“First and foremost, I want to thank the Vees’ ownership group and Fred Harbinson for giving me the opportunity to work for such a prestigious organization for the last six years,” said Rodgers in a press release. “I also want to thank the incredibly passionate and loyal fan base for their tremendous support; it was an incredible experience and one I will cherish forever.”

“Fraser has been a huge part of our fans experience over the past six years. His voice has connected our fans and families from all over North America and he will be greatly missed. We wish Fraser the best of luck,” said president, general manager and head coach Fred Harbinson.

The organization congratulated Fraser on his tenure and wish him all the best in his future endeavors. The Vees are expected to announce a replacement in the coming days.
