Two Ravensong Breakers took home medals and recorded personal bests at the Canadian Junior Swimming Championships that were held in Calgary recently.
Jakob Mbobela, 15, and Lochlan Rogers, 14, represented the Breakers at the meet that featured the country’s top junior swimmers. The two did not disappoint.
Rogers competed in the 50, 100 and 200 metre freestyle, 100 and 200 back. The 14-year-old captured two national titles, winning gold in the both the 50 and 100 free.
In the 100 free, the Qualicum Beach swimmer finished fourth in the preliminaries in 54.82 seconds to advance to the finals. He swam a faster time in the final, clocking 53.31 to earn the gold medal, beating Loic Courville Fortin of Repentigny, Que, the top swimmer in the preliminaries. Rogers earned his second gold when he finished first in the 50 free in a time of 24.44.
Mbobela qualified for finals in three events, the 50 and 100 free, and 100 fly. He finished 6th in the country in the Boys 15 and Under 100 free, setting a personal best time of 54.59. He placed 16th in the 50 free and 13th in the 100 butterfly.
Both swimmers also competed in the Canadian Junior Open Water Championships at Lake Chaparral on July 29th, where Mbobela finished 22nd and Lochlan placed 27th amongst a large field of some of Canada’s top distance swimmers.
