The North Coast Nightmares are hitting the road for the rest of the season after a 204-110 win against the Gold Pain City Derby Girls from Quesnel, B.C.

The roller derby bout on May 7 was the third time the Nightmares faced their favourite “foes”. The bout took place on Mother’s Day weekend at the Terrace Sportsplex.

“Even with last minute changes to the roster we managed to play well and pulled out another amazing win. That’s what makes the Nightmares so great, our lack of players and refs up north hasn’t kept us from progressing our game” says Tarea “Dream Warrior” Roberge, adding that competing against Quesnel is always fun.

Coach Chris “Skimo” Thomas said they have been working on theirfitness and strategy over the last few months.

“We learned a lot about when our strategies work best, and when they don’t,” he said of the bout.

The team nearly achieved their goal to win the May 7 bout by 2:1. Despite a shorter roster, the Nightmares were fierce competitors with a number of stand out performances by the players. Laura “Comet Crush’her” Haley, did some amazing solo blocking. Trina “Slaybia” Thomas and Jessica “Marg Sins Some” Hogg continuously knocked the opposing teams jammers out and forced them back. Kirsten “Skele-Score” Middleton performed from excellent apex jumps. Janelle “Ms. Fortinate” Fortin had the highest scoring jam in the game scoring 26 points in a single jam.

Up next the Nightmares will travel to Quesnel for a rematch with Gold Pain on May 28 and will compete against the Williams Lake Puddle Pounders May 29. They will also compete in “Summer Slam” in Richmond, B.C. on June 11-12, where they will face heavy hitters from the Okanagan and Lower Mainland.
