A local 10 year old placed fourth at the fourth event of the junior golf circuit.
Xander Bankes from Rossland was the youngest player to shoot all 18 holes at Redstone Resort on Saturday for the latest event of the Zone 1 West Kootenay Junior Golf Circuit. He shot a 87 on the par 72 course, placing fourth overall.
First place went to Ely Overennay, 16, from Castlegar, who shot 82.
It’s been a good year for Overennay, who placed first at the opening event of the circuit in April, and at the second event played in Castlegar. He took second in the third event of the circuit, losing out to Brayden McKay of Rossland in a playoff after they both shot 69.
As usual, Overennay was very humble about his victory.
“I didn’t play very good, but I’m happy that I won,” he said. “It was fun.”
The fourth event of the circuit also saw some younger golfers take to the greens. Finlay Smith and Adrian Roberts, both eight year olds from Rossland, played the front nine. They are the youngest golfers to participate so far this season.
Any golfers 18 years old or younger are welcome to play in the next eventat Champion Lake on Saturday, May 21 at noon. To register, contact Colin Overennay at zone1juniorgolf@gmail.com or 250-304-8913.
