A few changes were announced by the B.C. Hockey League following the board of governors meeting last week.
The board directed its Franchise Committee to review an application from a group interested in buying the West Kelowna Warriors and moving the franchise to North Delta.
“It is the responsibility of the Franchise Committee to make a recommendation to the board of governors as to what would be best course of action for the BCHL and all its member clubs in this matter,” the league explained in a press release. “The Franchise Committee is also to determine a timeline to when this potential transfer would be voted on by the board.”
The league also announced that nothing can be decided about the Nanaimo Clippers’ future until after a March 11 referendum about building a new arena in the city capable of hosting a Western Hockey League team. Speculation has been rampant about what would happen to the Clippers if the WHL moves to Nanaimo.
The board of governors also approved a 23-man roster starting in the 2017-18 season. Teams have used 22-man rosters since the 2012-13 season.
