The Quality Foods Parksville Royals took to the Western Canadian Baseball Championships as Team B.C. and came away with a gold medal in dramatic fashion.
It took them 11 innings to earn the win but the Royals capitalized with the bases loaded, as Adam McKillican drove home Nanoose Bay’s Josh Anderson for the game winner in the bottom of the 11th inning.
The Royals would beat the St. Alberts (Alberta) Cardinals by a score of 2-1, their second victory over the Cardinals in the tournament.
The Royals had six games in total at the tournament, going 5-1 along the way through round robin and on their way to the finals.
The Royals only loss came to the Parkland Expos in their first game, which they dropped by a score of 7-6.
From there they would go on to beat the Northwest Pirates 7-3 and 6-1, 2-0 over the St. James A’s and then beating the Cardinals twice, 3-2 and then 2-1 in the gold medal game.
The Royals will now return home and move straight into their fall league, as they’ll continue to practice and play all the way into October.
From there, the Royals will head indoors for the winter to wrap up the 2015 calendar year.
