Royals take games 1, 2

Victoria’s next home game in this series (if necessary) will be Friday, April 1.

The Victoria Royals ground out a 4-3 victory in game two of the best-of-seven series against the Spokane Chiefs on Saturday night at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre to take a 2-0 series lead.

In a gritty back and forth affair, the Royals were able to tally two unanswered goals scored by Jack Walker and Tyler Soy to create a 4-2 lead over the Chiefs in the third period. Spokane’s Dominic Zwerger recorded a late goal to bring the visitors within one marker. Victoria’s other tallies were registered by Walker and Jared Dmytriw. Spokane’s remaining goal scorers were Jacob Cardiff and Hudson Elynuik.

Royals’ goaltender Coleman Vollrath stopped 30 of the 33 shots he faced. Chiefs’ netminder Lasse Petersen made 17 saves on the 21 shots fired his way.
