The Comox Valley Road Runners had an amazing turn out this year for their junior running program, Run4Fun, for kids ages eight to 14.
The program saw the enthusiastic group rock the Comox Valley at many locations, doing loads of fun, running-related activities.
New to the program this year was a nutrition-based scavenger hunt, a family hash run, and an intense game of Capture the Flag. These were nice additions to the program and complemented the program’s original Poker Run and games finale nights.
Run4Fun also begins and ends with a short time trial over the same distance so the kids can get a sense of their progress over the eight weeks the program covers.
The finale night was a really good time. The Comox Valley Road Runner Youth Grant recipients, Peter Gledhill and Torin Halvorson, shared some inspiration and joined in the fun. Games were played and relays were run. The kids all received a certificate and ribbon acknowledging their participation in the program.
“The Comox Valley Road Runners would like to thank the sponsors of the program; Re/Max Ocean Pacific Realty and Extreme Runners. Run4Fun would not play out the way it does without you,” a CVRR spokesperson said.
“We also thank the volunteers, parents and the guest speakers who assisted with the program. What a community! Mark your calendars for CVRR Run4Fun, spring of 2013.”
