Running series off to fast start

The Frontrunners Island Race Series is off and running, after the first race of 2012 this past weekend.

The Frontrunners Island Race Series is off and running, after the first race of 2012 this past weekend. The Prairie Inn Harriers’ Pioneer 8K was held Sunday in Saanich, with Steve Osaduik winning in 24 minutes, 46 seconds.

Top local from the Bastion Running Club was Joel DeSchiffart, whose time of 27:17 put him 16th overall and first in his 16-19 age division. Top female from the Bastion Club was Cheryl Davies, who completed the course in 33:43, putting her fourth in her division.

Next race in the series is the Cobble Hill 10K on Jan. 22. The Cedar 12K is slated for Feb. 5.
