It was a jam-packed weekend for Vernon ringette highlighted by the U16A Rocstar Drywall Adrenaline Rush winning the B.C. Championships in Prince George.
The Rush threepeated as provincial champs and will represent B.C. at the Western Canada finals, March 26-29, in Winnipeg.
The Rush are coached by Paige Powls, Val Percy and Elli Paulin. Powls and Percy have been with the team for the past three seasons.
“The team knew that winning this tournament and being Team B.C. has been our goal all season,” said Powls. “They proved that they wanted it more than any team on the ice.”
The Rush rolled through the tournament 5-0.
Goaltender Garrett Adams was nearly bullet proof, posting two shutouts including one in the championship game when the Rush blanked Delta 4-0.
“Adams was without a doubt our tournament MVP. He saved us in the Kelowna game,” said Powls.
Vernon clipped their valley rivals 6-5 in the semifinals.
Shelby Connors led the way offensively for the Rush. She had 7+5, recording points in each game.
Kendra Ostafie and Maddie Powls both contributed with eight points.
Ostafie had four snipes in the semifinals.
The U14A Tweens took a B.C. bronze.
They went 2-2-1, but an overtime loss against Kelowna landed them bronze.
“These girls had a great season,” said head coach Warren Carter. “They were heart-broken by this tough overtime loss but they can be proud of their effort at provincials and the whole season.”
Alyssa Racine was the leading scorer with 12+5, which included 7+2 in a win against Fraser Valley.
Courtney Bacon and Emily Williams wrapped up their season each in double-digit point totals. Bacon had 6+7 while Williams had 6+5.
Vernon’s Newalta Bombers were in the U14B provincials in Prince George.
“The whole team played fantastic all weekend just as they have all season,” said head coach Blair Campbell.
The Bombers won their first two games, outscoring their opponents 13-3. Makayla Vanderzwan buried seven goals and Bryn Taylor-Hawes had six.
In other Petite Ringette action, the Vernon DCT Chambers Roar put the finishing touches on their season with a 7-5 Saturday victory against Westside.
The Roar got hat tricks from Ashly Shwaluk and Julie Francis. The sister combination of Emma and Sierra Lochhead had one assist each.
“Makenna Jackson and Mackenzie Gillman provided great hustle and strong support for their goalie Katrina Winstanley, who played excellent in the crease,” said coach Tamara Lochhead.
The Petite U12 Advertising Works Vernon Victory ended the season on Saturday by outlasting the Kelowna Kaos 13-11 in Salmon Arm.
Grace Cornell had five goals and Jaden Scott had four.
