SIDNEY — Saanich Peninsula body builder Ruth Saunders claimed two titles at the 2016 Popeyes Fall Classic in Vancouver earlier this month.
Saunders placed first in the Masters 35-plus Physique division and first in the Open B Physique division. She was also noted for her overall performance and her skill at posing.
In an email to the News Review, Saunders — who is a long time Peninsula resident and mother of two boys — entered the competition after jumping up a category. The wins this month means she has a lifetime bye into provincial competitions.
Saunders, a former mixed martial arts fighter, was profiled in the PNR two years ago, after she won second place in the Figure Tall category at the B.C. Amateur Bodybuilding Association’s (BCABBA) Western Canadian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships.
