Saanich-stung Wolves look to rebound against Cougars

Island Junior B League squad hosting Kerry Park tonight

Less than a week removed from one of their worst defeats of the Vancouver Island Hockey League season, the Westshore Wolves have another chance to gain ground on the South Division-leading Victoria Cougars.

The Wolves, 8-2 losers in Saanich on Friday, host the Kerry Park Islanders tonight at 7 (Nov. 11) then head to Esquimalt Thursday night for another head-to-head matchup with the Cougars.

The Wolves (14-6-1) and Victoria (15-2-1) face off at 7 p.m. at the Archie Browning Sports Centre.

On Friday, Nick Guerra of the Braves and Quentin McShane of the Wolves traded goals five seconds apart in the first couple minutes of the second period following a scoreless first. Saanich tore things open with four straight goals in the period and never looked back.

Westshore’s Corey Peterson cut the gap to 5-2 with an unassisted goal  18:10 into the second. The Braves got it back before intermission when Jack Rachwalski scored with 14 seconds left, then added two power play goals in the third.
