Langley Secondary’s Senior Varsity football team kicked off their AA regular season with a dominant 42-7 win over Clarence Fulton Secondary last Friday in Vernon.
The Saints controlled the game from the opening kickoff, with Kai Thomas taking the ball from his own 17 out to the 45 yard line.
Langley would drive down the field quickly and open the scoring on a 12-yard touchdown from Thomas behind strong downfield blocking from Raphael Gould. Thomas wound up finishing the day with 101 yards on eight carries with two touchdowns, an interception and five tackles on defense.
The teams traded turnovers and possesions in the first quarter, with the Saints beginning a drive late in the first on their own 24. Long runs by Thomas and Kori Johnson drove the Saints down the field, with powerful lead blocking from Harshaad Jouhal, who was a force on both sides of the ball all day. The drive resulted in a TD for the big fullback, who took a pass from senior quarterback Sam Colby into the end-zone for a 10-yard score. Jouhal finished the day with five tackles, a tackle-for-loss, a touchdown, and 2 batted passes, one of which he intercepted himself.
After a quick three-and-out, Trenton Warren had a big 35-yard return, set up by a massive block from Jesse Tomica. The Saints would take just two plays to find the end-zone, with Colby hitting Brodie Thomas on a 15-yard pass for a touchdown.
After a Fulton score, Thomas would add another score on a beautiful 37-yard TD pass late in the 2nd quarter, bringing the score at halftime to 28-7 LSS. Thomas went on to finish the day with two catches for two touchdowns, as well as five tackles on defense.
With the score 35-7 after Kai Thomas scored his 2nd touchdown early in the 3rd quarter, the Saints played their second team for much of the second half, with Grade 11 quarterback Damien Pillhoffer throwing a touchdown pass to Grade 11 Balsher Randhawa.
The Saints are on a bye this week, while they prepare for a massive matchup against division rival Samuel Robertson Friday Oct. 5th. Pending scheduling issues, the team will host a Friday Night Lights series of games October 12th, 19th and November 2nd. October 19th will be Saints Alumni Night, in which at halftime the team will honor past players who have gone on to play Junior or College football.
