Fort Langley’s Sarah Pucek, 24, will return to the ring August 27 at the Emerald Queen Casino at Tacoma, Washington, when she resumes her professional boxing career.

Pucek is back with trainer/manager Dave Allison after being off for a while. She had achieved a #10 World Boxing Council Ranking before the layoff. She is currently ranked #15.

Pucek will face DJ Morrison, an Idaho based fighter who is tough and a veteran of the ring. Morrison has had twice the number of fights as Pucek and will be a tough test for Pucek.

Allison says Pucek is mentally more prepared for professional boxing now.

“She has matured and it is a pleasure to see her back. She got some stuff out of her system and is now ready to take a real serious run at not only a world title but the pound for pound title as best female boxer out there.

“She is back to form after some rough spots in getting her back to where she was. It is always hard to get a boxer back to the level they were after time off.”

Nonetheless, Allison is very pleased with Pucek’s progress. Due to some of the youngsters in the gym being off for the summer it has allowed him the time to get Sarah back to where she was. She has had some good sparring with Andreatta, who gives her the kind of work she needs.

“I believe in her and the fact she can achieve what she wants in this sport and she may be the third female boxer from BC to win a world title,” said Allison.

Diane Dutra, who was also trained by Allison, was the first, and Jeannine Garside from Duncan is the current World Featherweight Champion. Pucek could be a future challenge for Garside’s title.
