Sardis basketball grad Tyus De Vries helps TRU WolfPack stop Spartans

Opening weekend U-Sports action saw De Vries and Thompson Rivers take two from Trinity Western.

Sardis secondary grad Tyus De Vries helped his Thompson Rivers WolfPack get off to a winning start in U-Sports men’s basketball action last weekend.

TRU whomped Trinity Western’s Spartans 102-80 Friday night in Kamloops and completed a two-game sweep Saturday with an 85-70 triumph.

De Vries, a third year forward/guard, had 14 points with four rebounds Friday and 15 points with six rebounds Saturday.

A former rival of his in Chilliwack was on the losing end of both games, but GW Graham alum Gabe Mannes did well in his U-Sports debut.

After spending last season with the Columbia Bible College Bearcats, the dynamic guard made a splash for the Spartans.

He averaged 26.5 minutes per match on opening weekend and scored 17 points in both games. He hit on four of seven three point attempts and pulled down five rebounds.
