Sardis basketballer Larissa Cote shines in RBC Training Ground testing

The Chilliwack native posted impressive results in tests designed to identify elite athletes.

Chilliwack had four athletes attending the RBC Training Ground event in Langley April 28.

Sienna Lenz, Larissa Cote, Jesula McCallum and Isabel Taylor endured a battery of testing intended to identity potential Olympic level talent.

More than 70 athletes from cities all over the region challenged themselves, and two of the Chilliwackians rose above the crowd.

Lenz, a 19 year old women’s basketball player at Simon Fraser University, posted the best time of anyone in the endurance shuttle run (12.05).

Cote, a 15 year old who has just finished her Grade 9 season with the Sardis Falcons basketball team, had the fastest time of anyone in the 10 metre sprint, going start to finish in 1.73 seconds.

Basketball may be her primary sport, but Larissa will have caught the eye of track and field evaluators who look for explosive speed.

Cote also posted an impressive mark of 66.60 in the vertical leap, just a little bit more than McCallum’s mark of 63.20.

One of the top performers at least year’s event was Chilliwack paddler Austin Atkins, who ended up being selected to receive ‘Future Olympian’ funding.
